Das Karam Chand Gandhi promoted Basic Education wherein the child was to also
learn a skill / trade along with academic work. Thus, the school was to develop
as a self sufficient institution.

2. Ravindranath Tagore
Ravindranath
Tagore believe that learning should take
place in nature and from nature and not be restricted to the classroom.
3. J Krishnamurti
J
Krishnamurti proposed in a comprehensive
view of education which wood transform the human mind. According to him, the
religious spirit and the scientific attitude should form part of the same
consciousness.

4. Sri Aurobindo
His
idea of ‘Integral education’ is a unique concept. He has expounded the
education of by, mind and spirit and the importance of their integration. He
has also dwelt on the social and psychological aspects of education.

5. Sarvapalli
Radhakrishnan
Sarvapalli
Radhakrishnan was an eminent
educationist, teacher and philosopher of independent India. His birthday is
celebrated on 5th September as Teacher’s day. He emphasized the importance of
spiritual aspects of Indian philosophy.

6.John Dewey:
He
promoted experiential learning. He focused on the project method of learning
where the teacher is a facilitator every subject must be corrected to each
them.

7.Maria Montessori:
Focus
on education of young children between the ages three and seven. She believed
in self – education through development of individuality. She asserted that the
gateway to knowledge is through sense experience. Special emphasis is given to
the sense of touch.
Montessori
advocates complete freedom to the child.

8.Froebel:
Important ideas
(a)
Child must be educated in accordance with the laws of his development.
(b)
Education should enable the child to realize unity in diversity.
(c)
Creative self - activity through participation.
(d)
Develop the theory and practice of play in education. He combined play and
work.
Kindergarten
school emphasised self – activity, creativeness and social co-operation.
Froebel’s method of kindergarten has focused on the young child (pre-school).

9.Rousseau
Child should be made free to learn from nature
since society corrupts values. There should be no formal learning, no
discipline, and no teaching of morals, no books etc.
